Today everyone in our school had a chance to hear from these two moms. Debbie and Christy founded a non-profit organization called "Just 2 Moms" to raise awareness to autism. Autism occurs when a person's brain has difficulty making sense of the world around him or her causing it to be difficult to interpret (understand) what they see, hear, taste, feel, smell, or experience. As we learned, people with autism are unique, just like each of us is. We were reminded that it is important to tolerate and respect each individual's learning styles and difference. I hope that you learned something from the assembly today. If you have something you'd like to share about the assembly, please feel free to comment.
As you know, Ms. Jen loves Pinterest. Take a look at this cool anchor chart about reading that I found! Remember, you have taken control of your reading life. Can you apply any of these reading strategies to the books that you're reading? If you think you can, leave a comment on the blog explaining how you're able to apply the strategy to your historical fiction book.
Fancy Fun Day Wednesday was pretty good. I really wished more people participated, but Ms. Jen can dream. [If you're wondering what Fun Day next Wednesday will be, it is "dress like a Valentine" though if you're Ms. Jen, not only will you be celebrating the fun day but also Bill's birthday!]
Today was another fantastic day filled with hard work. I hope that everyone has been doing their 60 minutes of reading and recording it on their reading logs.
Everyone's writing is coming along quite well and I have been impressed with the stories that I have read so far! I feel that the fifth graders have grown tremendously as writers. Shout out to Justin for getting his cast taken off and for writing with his hand and the iPad today!
I also want to compliment my homeroom for doing a stellar, super star job with compliments and appreciations this afternoon at our class meeting. I think that we gave quality, inside compliments in record time! Anthony R., it's always nice to hear that a student appreciates how hard I am pushing him to work to the best of his abilities; thanks again for that awesome compliment.
I am super excited to share tomorrow's homework assignment with you. If you're reading the blog before school, then here's the assignment: Write a reflection about Thursday's school day- tell me what happened since I will not be in class. If Ms. Jen enjoys it, your reflection may be published on Friday as the blog for Thursday!
With love, ponies, and lots of glitter,
Ms. Jen
